Cooking has been a chore for me for the past year or so, I have never really liked doing it. Firstly one has to be creative with the food, and be carefull which foods you mix with which, choose carefully the spice that will not only add flavor but compliment the taste of the food.
But today it was different, I looked at the ingredients from a different point of view these veggetables where not just a source of good nutrition but they were colorfull and tastey. So I started small, chopped a yellow pepper, orange carrots, green broccoli and brown mushrooms. Before putting them in the wok, I made sure it was nice and hot, started with some onions added a little salt to them, added chopped veggies. From that combination I had me a tasty and crunchy veggie stir fry. I made tomato gravy the old way, fried onions with real tomato instead of tomato paste, added some mushrooms and it was amazing. But I wanted to keep the theme of color in my meal, so I added some spinach leaves to it. I decided not to stop there, so I made a garden salad. All raw - a mixture of different green leaves with carrots, peppers, olives and some dried cranberries. Every meal needs a good source of protein added to it, and since we’ve been eating a lot of beef lately, I made chicken. Fried some onions with a little salt, turmeric powder and curry mix. In it I let the chicken thighs (no skin) cook for some time. And of course added more carrots and baby potatoes. Because I had just enough color and flavor in everything, I decided to cook a pot of plain basmati rice. I’m glad to say, there were no left overs from that meal and everyone at the table licked their fingers clean.
And so I’ve grown some in that regard as well. Food has always been just a source of nutrition for me but now its a source of expression. I was feeling a little low and needed some comfort food, but I wanted to have something that would lift my spirits and not just fill me up. Attention to detail and just a hint of love always yields the most favorable of results.
